
A £70 million three year project which aims to raise the skills of the workforce in Wales' most deprived areas has been announced by Deputy Minister for Skills, John Griffiths. The new Modern Apprenticeship World Class Skills project will help more than 22,500 people raise their skill levels - with more than 14,000 training places made possible thanks to £40 million of European funding. The key points from the bulletin are in 2006/07 there were 356,310 learners domiciled in Wales and pursuing learning. Of these learners, 58% were female and 42% were male. 41% of learners were aged under 25 and 40% of learners were aged between 25 and 49. More

New research reveals the barriers people feel stand in the way of them learning an additional skill. More than a third (39 percent) of adults blame a lack of time, while nearly a third (29 percent) of adults feel a lack of money is the main reason for them not learning a new skill.
