
A bold new strategy outlining how Wales will drive up its skills levels in the future, has been unveiled by Deputy Minister for Skills. The One Wales document highlights the significance of having a strong skills base. The key points from the latest release are: Overall success rates were 60% in FE and 65% in WBL. Just under 50% of learners leaving Modern Apprenticeship (MA) and Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA) programmes in 2006/07 achieved their full apprenticeship framework. More

Revised GCSEs in Welsh (first language), Welsh Literature, English, English Literature, Mathematics and ICT are to be introduced for first teaching from September 2010. The Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills is consulting on the criteria that will govern these qualifications with centres, awarding bodies and a range of key stakeholders. September marks the beginning of the new school term and for 12 teachers in Wales it will also mark the start of their four year term on the General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW). The teachers were elected by their peers across Wales and will represent the profession on the Council. More

New measures to ensure all apprenticeships are of a uniform high quality and have the confidence of both apprentices and employers have been announced today by David Lammy and Jim Knight as the Government published its draft Apprenticeships Bill. The Bill, will for the first time establish a statutory basis for the entire apprenticeships programme. More
