Education Minister Jane Hutt today [Thursday 16 August 2007] proudly announced a successful year for students and teachers across Wales as another set of excellent A Level results were published. The results published today show that for students in Wales.
The Minister said:
Students across Wales are celebrating excellent examination achievements this year. Their hard work has been rewarded as has the support they receive from teachers and parents.
For A Level students these results are the culmination of two years of dedicated study and for many represent the starting point for further studies at university, college or work-related learning.
For many AS students these results will also form the basis for continued studies leading to A Levels and other higher level qualifications next year.
Whatever their destination the young people collecting their results today can be truly proud of their achievements which will stand them in good stead for the future.
There will no doubt be those who yet again try to cast doubt on the standard of A levels, claiming that excellent results are due to the exams getting easier, but that is simply not true and should not be allowed to detract from the achievements of individuals today.
These results reflect the excellent standards observed in sixth form classes and colleges by the Education and Training Inspectorate in Wales; Estyn.
The Welsh Assembly Government continues to support the hard work of everyone involved in provision of post-16 education in Wales. These results demonstrate another solid year of progress but we are not complacent; our focus is on continuing to build on our current high performance to realise our vision of Wales as a Learning Country.
