Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths has today [Tuesday 11 December] welcomed Sir Adrian Webb's independent review of Further Education (FE) in Wales.
The need for a review was identified in The Learning County Vision in Action, and was commissioned to consider provision of post 14, FE in Wales and how it can be better developed in the future.
The review not only analysed FE Institutions, but also examined developments in 14-19 education; responsiveness to the skills needs of employers and the economy; adult learning, social justice and community engagement.
The review has been conducted by an independent panel of three experts utilising the further support of a wider reference group with expertise in schools, FE, employment, skills and higher education sectors. The Review panel was chaired by Sir Adrian Webb and consisted of Sheila Drury OBS and Gary Griffiths.
It is intended that the work contained within the Review will link with the proposed Skills and Employment Strategy to be published for consultation in January 2008.
John Griffiths said:
I want to ensure that Wales’ educational provision meets the present and future needs of its people and its economy. This is central to the objectives of the Welsh Assembly Government and forms a significant commitment in One Wales.
I would like to thank Sir Adrian Webb and the other members of the panel for their work in conducting the Review and I look forward to considering their findings and seeing where we can apply them in practice.
